In many occasions, firearms are slid or laid flat under beds or alternatively hidden in drawers or stood in closets. In some different cases, they are simply laid across racks. That is however, not the perfect way how firearms should be stored. This must be in secure convenient places that allow admiration and handling or easy removal during hunting or performance of target exercises.

Gun safes measure greatly on all counts. For accessible formations, long firearms are kept in upper cases while short ones like pistols are displayed in the lower cases. Ammunition and supplies may be stored in other drawers. For security concerns, the doors of your safe should be equipped with secure locks.

Below is a simple way to make a secure safe:

Contents

  • 1 Step 1: Locating a perfect spot
  • 2 Step 2: Drilling a hole to make the inside of your safe
  • 3 Step 3: Installation of the door
  • 4 Step 4: Installing a lock

Step 1: Locating a perfect spot

First it is necessary to find perfect place on the walls of your house that can fit a whole body mirror. In our case example, we recommend you to use something that you like e.g. use a big painting. Such items are used for covering facts of a hidden safe behind. Being careful enough while working or deciding to hire a professional will help to conceal your work.

Finding the necessary place for your safe may seem to be the most difficult part since it requires a natural look. Importantly, you need ensure that no wiring or plumbing is available behind the cabinet. This is necessary for avoidance of breakage of things as you prepare the safe.

Step 2: Drilling a hole to make the inside of your safe

This is done after getting the perfect spot for your gun safe and obtaining all the necessary equipment and tools you necessary for the start. So, start by making a hole in the wall and it requires being smaller than the item being used for covering up.

This item will act as your door for the safe in case of a larger hole, people may suspect your activities. Afterwards, cut the hole and be sure to leave the insulation alone because the safe does not necessarily need to be big as it depends on your ammunition’s size.

When you have finished making a hole in your wall, take measurements of the width and length of the hole and start making a wooden or metallic box that fits in that hole.

Build the frame of the box and put its backside. This can be made of plywood, plastic or paneling. This box acts as the inside of your gun’s safe. After everything has been duly completed, slide it into the hole you made. Screw your safe so as to put it in place.

Thereafter, you can prefer to fix hooks inside the cabinet. These hooks can be used for the hanging your guns so as to securing them in place.

Step 3: Installation of the door

The door installation is the next logical step. It can be made of a big piece of metal or wood and it depends which material you might prefer. It is usually placed on one side and hinges on the other side. Mount it on the box’s frame the safe such that nothing looks out of order.

Note that the door should be in perfect uniformity with the mirror or painting such that it can be decorated to look like a frame.

Step 4: Installing a lock

This is the final step of making your safe. Consider either a traditional lock with a key or the modern one with a keypad activated on it so that you can hide in a private and convenient place inside your house.

As evidenced above, there are many other ways of keeping making an accessible and secure gun safe. All you need is to put your creativity to work and ensure that you have access to the concealed gun safe at any particular moment.
